Sweat by Zora Neale Hurston

Write a two page essay about how Sweat by Zora Neale Hurston had the most profound impact on me out of the story’s we’ve read this year.

The first line of “Sweat” is concise and introduces us to a very specific and important part of the story: the setting. We learn that the protagonist, Delia Jones, is a wash woman and that her husband, Sykes, has disappeared with her horse and cart.

In the middle of sorting clothes, “something long, round, limp and black fell upon [Delia’s] shoulders and slithered to the floor beside her” (3). No, it’s not a snake (her worst fear), but Sykes’s bullwhip. He berates her for bringing ‘white folks’ clothes into the house and tells her to quit working. When she doesn’t, he kicks the clothes around. This guy sounds like a real joy to be around, doesn’t he?

He reigned for 72 years and 110 days until his death on September 1, 1715,  longer than that of any other known European sovereign.

During his reign Louis transformed the monarchy, ushered in a golden age of art and literature, presided over a dazzling royal court at Versailles, annexed key territories and established his country as the dominant power on the continent until the War of the Spanish Succession, which lasted from 1701 to 1714.

Virtue of Respectfulness

It’s an essay about the virtue of Respectfulness. Just make up a few stories or something, I’ll put it in format and everything and I’ll edit it so just give me a draft.

Respect has great importance in everyday life. As children we are taught (one hopes) to respect our parents, teachers, and elders, school rules and traffic laws, family and cultural traditions, other people’s feelings and rights, our country’s flag and leaders, the truth and people’s differing opinions. And we come to value respect for such things; when we’re older, we may shake our heads (or fists) at people who seem not to have learned to respect them. We develop great respect for people we consider exemplary and lose respect for those we discover to be clay-footed, and so we may try to respect only those who are truly worthy of our respect. We may also come to believe that, at some level, all people are worthy of respect. We may learn that jobs and relationships become unbearable if we receive no respect in them; in certain social milieus we may learn the price of disrespect if we violate the street laws.

1) States developed independently in very different environmental settings. Environmental factors can be both stimuli or constraints to the development and sustainability of ancient states.
Compare and contrast the relationship of environmental factors to the rise and fall of complex civilizations in at least two civilization areas. How do climate, geography, geology, plant and animal species, agricultural potential, resource abundance or scarcity affect the development and history of states in each region?

2) Empires use a variety of strategies to integrate diverse regions and peoples into an “overarching tribute-taxation structure and an ideological apparatus” (Gailey and Patterson 1987:8).
Compare and contrast the strategies used in the expansion, consolidation and administration of at least two prehistoric empires. How did imperial strategies permit each empire to exert control, extract tribute and avoid resistance? How did the choice of strategies affect the viability and longevity of each imperial system?

3) Ideology may be defined as “the principles, philosophies, ethics and values by which human societies are governed”. Iconography is “the ways in which aspects of the world, the supernatural or human values are conveyed in art” (Flannery and Marcus 1996:351).

China vs US trade wars Argumentative Essay

China vs US trade wars

Use Intellectual property rights ONLY as an argument to support or reject the idea that china can win the China vs US trade wars.

Victory will remain elusive until each side knows what it wants. To have a chance of winning such a war, the Trump administration needs to get the rest of the world on its side. This is not likely to happen for three reasons: the United States’ economic leverage is not strong enough; national interests in much of the rest of the world are not aligned with such an arrangement; and the U.S. is at a comparative disadvantage in terms of resources.

I believe, and a lot of evidence proves, that free trade is the best way to maximize long-run prosperity for everyone.

Roman Republic and the Mongol Empire

The question that needs to be answered is …What was the most important difference in the relationship between the state and it’s subjects in the Roman Republic and the Mongol Empire ?

The Roman Empire and the Mongol Empire were two of the greatest empires ever created but they are from two different times with different styles of fighting, equipment and enemies to conquer. Who would win in a battle or a war between the two? The Romans were extremely organised, disciplined and well equipped and the Mongols were extremely adaptive, mobile and fierce. They were both the strongest and most feared empires of their times and had great leadership but the Mongols could just pelt their enemies from afar with one of the strongest bows created like the Parthians did at carrhae.

Water Research Paper

The Water Research paper should be written using 12-point font (Times New Roman) and double-spaced (final paper) with page numbers at the bottom. Please print double-sided. Provide full references for all literature cited, including those on our syllabus.

TOPIC :

As we know, water, Sun, Air and Fire is essential for human beings, and we cannot live without any of them. People put a lot weight on the significance of water. 60% to 70% of human’s body is composed by water. Water also breeds culture. For example, we cannot talk about Egypt’s civilization without mentioning the Nile. The civilization of Mesopotamia is cultivated by Euphrates and Tigris. On the contrary, instead of praising the significance of water, I have the preference to expose some “dark sides” of water.

Water could be disaster such as flood, which cause thousands of people’s death. Water could also be pollution, which poses threat to environmental problems and people’s health condition. Water could also even lead to war, which generates conflict between nations. As for the “dark sides” of water, I made a decision on focusing on war and pollution. For the broader perspective, different countries involved in the war and conflict for water resource. For a narrower perspective, the deteriorated water quality change resident’s life. In other words, neither country nor individual cannot avoid being influenced by the “dark sides” of water.

Outline of the paper

CASE ONE:

Endless conflicts and white war are possible to be raised due to water resource. Water can shape conflict. For example, India and Pakistan had launched wars in a dispute over water resource. I will illustrate the long procedure and history of two countries’ dispute over water, which lasts for 69 years. How is water being used within two countries and whether water is distributed evenly between India and Pakistan? Where is Kashmir? Why India and Pakistan always quarrels with each other because of Kashmir, their boundary line? India built dams in the upstream of the river, how those dams effects Pakistan and how they response to India?

CASE TWO:

In addition to war, pollution is the other “dark side” of water, which worth discussing and digging deeper. Water pollution comes with industrial revolution and it was aggravated due to the development. After the concise introduction for the reason and background of water pollution, I will give the specific example of the citizens who lives next to the Yang Zi River. What was their former life before the water pollution and how their life was changed by the pollution? In the past, they could get the water directly in front of their house from the river and drink it. However, nowadays, they have to go far away in order to obtaining clean water. They also cannot sustain their life by selling the fish any more because a large amount of fish was dead owing to pollution. What is more, their healthy condition was threatened by the polluted water. Under such a bad condition, how they deal with it?

Conclusion:

Although water plays a important role in our life and the world, every coin has two sides. We should balance and have a comprehension of both the twinkling and dark side.
